Dang Shen Description

Dang Shen,also called codonopsis radix, shows oval or round-like thick slices, yellow-brown or gray-yellow on the surface, yellow-white or yellow-brown on the cut surface,with cracks or chrysanthemum patterns, and has a yellowish center in the center. It has a special aroma and slightly sweet taste. It is produced in the mountain forest edge and shrubs of altitude 1560-3100 meters in northern China. There are about 40 species of dang shen in the world, about 39 species in China, and 21 species for medicinal use which is distributed in Northeast China, North China and Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, Henan, Sichuan, Yunnan,and Tibet.

1. Dang shen has effects on both excitation and inhibition of neural processes.

2. Dang shen saponins can stimulate the role of respiratory center.

3. Dang shen can regulate gastrointestinal motility, resist ulcer and enhance immune function.

4. Dang shen has the effect of delaying aging, anti-hypoxia, and anti-radiation.

5. Dang shen has a short-term antihypertensive effect on animals, but it can also recover the blood pressure in rabbits with advanced hemorrhagic shock.

6. Dang shen can increase the red blood cells, hemoglobin, reticulocytes of animals.
