Indigowoad root, also called isatis root or Banlangen, is a kind of Chinese herb and medicinal material, which can be divided into northern indigowoad root and southern indigowoad root. Northern indigowoad root is the root of the cruciferous plant isatis tinctoria, southern indigowoad root is the rhizome and root of the Baphicacanthus cusia Brem. It has the effects of clearing away the heat and detoxifying, preventing colds and soothing the throat, and its taste is bitter.
